기술적인 배움에 관련된 것들은 제외했다(따로 적을 것 같다).
평소에는 그렇게까지 많은 글을 읽지는 않는다. 왜냐하면 할일이 바쁠 뿐더러 일방적으로 받아들이는 것이 아니라 나대로 소화할 시간도 필요하기 때문에. 그래도 이번주에는 삶을 어떻게 살지에 대해 생각할 시간이 있었기 때문에, 읽었던 글들 중 좋은 것들을 요약하고 내 생각을 적어본다.
글로 적는 것 자체가 가장 잘 생각을 정리하는 방법인 듯하다. 나만의 방식으로 다시 풀어낼 수 없는 지식은 진정으로 나에게 습득된 것이 아니다.

You can’t get away with half-heartedness in making art.
이유를 모르겠지만 이번 주에 가장 자주 되새기게되는 하나의 문장입니다. 진심을 다하지 않으면, 얻을 수 있는 것은 없습니다.
이상하게 들릴 수도 있지만, 이 뉴스레터의 저자가 개인적으로 되게.. 기특하게 느껴집니다.(기특하다라고 표현하면 더 낮은 위치의 상대방에게 하는 말 같아서 다른 표현을 쓰고싶지만 제 어휘가 부족하네요)
현대에 우정과 사랑과 예술에 대해서 이렇게 열정을 담은 글을 쓴다는 것 자체가 한편으로는 부럽습니다.

- Others see the success, deconstruct how they did it.
- Others still repeat those same things, joylessly, without the original spark.
- Create a cheap shadow of the original.
Nothing great was ever created from a playbook.Playbooks are the death of creativity and joy.So we must burn the playbooks.
Do something that makes you feel more creative, more alive, more human. Something that sets your brain on fire. Something that you love doing more than anything else in the world. Something that no one can do just like you. Something that can’t be playbooked.

추가 생각
마찬가지로 이번주에 어디선가 본 문장이 기억난다. avoid less effort, less impact. 이 문장이 정확히 어떤 맥락에서 어떤 의도로 사용되었는지는 기억이 나지 않지만, 그렇게 중요하진 않은 것 같다. 내가 느낀 바는 4가지의 조합 속에서(high-less effort, high-less impact) 가장 피해야 할 것은 less effort, less impact 라는 것.
그렇다면 드는 의문은 — high effort, less impact를 가장 피해야하는거 아닌가?
하지만.. 나는 high effort를 필요로 하는 일이라면 거기에 무엇인가 있다고 생각한다. 단지 단기적인 관점에서는 보이지 않거나, 그것이 정량적으로 가져다 주는 것만 고려해서 less impact로 보일 수 있다. 결국 무엇이든 간에 정말 진심을 다하고, 노력을 쏟아서 한다면 그것은 많은걸 가져다 줄거라고 믿는다.
각기 다른 곳에서 발견하고 읽은 글들에서, 하나의 통일된 생각이 떠오른다. 글들을 너무 내 bias대로 해석했다는 뜻일 수도 있겠지만
평소에 내가 가장 자주 생각하는 단 하나의 문장을 적으라고 하면 이것 — 어떻게 세상을 더 좋은 곳으로 변화시키고 주변 사람들에게 더 좋은 사람이 될 수 있을까? — 현재의 나로써는 갈길이 멀다.
Machines of Loving Grace에서 Dario modei가 5가지 부문에 대해 기술적으로 낙관적인 미래를 그렸지만, 나는 생각보다 그것이 쉽게 오지 않는다고 생각하고 가장 큰 이유는 기술의 발전 자체보다 기술을 긍정적인 방향으로 사용하며, 강하게 밀어붙일 개인의 부재일 것 같다. 그 이유는 Burn the playbooks에서 the modern world seems to crush geniuses.라고 말하는 점과 연결된다. 어쨌든 미친 생각을 가진 사람, 사람들이 밀여붙여야 무엇이든 일어날 수 있다.
그런 점에서 patrick collison의 블로그 글을 되새긴다. 인류가 혁신적인 변화를 빠르게 이뤄냈던 시기가 있다. 현재는 기술 성숙도가 올라와서 더 새로운 기술이 탄생하기 어려워졌다던지와 같은 시대적인 차이가 있어서라고는 생각하지 않는다. 단지 혁신을 추구하는 사회 시스템이 약해지고, 그런 개인이 탄생하기 어려워졌기 때문이다.
나는 그런 개인이 되고싶다. 나는 16살에 대학을 졸업하는 천재가 아니고, 뉴욕에서 태어나 어릴때부터 누구보다 많은 경험을 하지도 않았다. 따라서 내가 선택해야 하는 것은 한가지이다.
“”남들이 제시하는 성공방정식을 따르거나 세상이 주는 시험의 점수를 잘 맞는걸 목표로 하지 말자. 독립적으로 생각하고, 스스로의 흥미를 따라서 진심으로 임해라.””
재인용으로 결론을 내고싶다.
Do something that makes you feel more creative, more alive, more human. Something that sets your brain on fire. Something that you love doing more than anything else in the world. Something that no one can do just like you. Something that can’t be playbooked.
You can’t get away with half-heartedness.
더 깊이 알고싶은걸 공부하고, 만들고 싶다고 생각이 되는걸 만들어야지.
